I'll say it as a Canadian before anyone else can: The Barenaked Ladies suck.

They're OK in my book, but it's not really my style of music. You're not required to like them because you're Canadian!

You already took Rush, so how about The Guess Who and Men Without Hats
If anyone says Justin Bieber, Nickleback, or that Call Me Maybe lady I will kick them in the face.

I'll list some of my favourites:
Billy Talent (fantastic live band, their sound comes across perfectly)
Alexisonfire
I love this Midnight Oil cover as well, even though it never got released on an album:
Related to the above, City and Colour, being Dallas Green from Alexisonfire.
And probably a bit [ok, probably a lot, especially for Americans] more obscure, Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker, USS for short.
These guys are awesome live (I've seen them 5 or 6 times now), possibly better than their recorded stuff.

Blasphemy hail from Vancouver if I'm not mistaken...
And so does 3 inches of blood.

Damn, forgot Three Days Grace:
Their new stuff is a bit different but the evolution works really well.

They're no longer together, but the smalls were pretty awesome.
The Odds, The Payola$, Gowan, Honeymoon Suite...

Carly Rae Jepsen ain't THAT bad man... Not my type of music, but I've heard worse...
Anywho, have some Obliveon..

Shit, I remember Voivod from the late Eighties. Fucking. Epic.

A co-worker is a massive Three Inches Of Blood fan. He's gone to every show in Saskabush, and I believe he's played on the same bill.

I think I discovered Voivod in the early nineties or something, I'm not old enough to remember them from the eighties.. the eighties was all about Death and Metallica for me :P
![]() 10/07/2013 at 21:34 |
|
I stumbled upon them in 2006 I think.. asked the clerk behind the counter at the local record shop for something "epic and heavy metal".. hehe...
![]() 10/07/2013 at 21:34 |
|
I remember getting stoned ioff my ass and watching Voivod videos for 45 minutes, so like...4 songs?
You've got great taste, my friend. :-)

Hehe I'm from Norway, so off course I've got great taste in music :P I hail from the land of blackened death technical symphonic folk viking metal.. Oh, and the land of blashyrkh :P

They certainly fit the bill!My buddy Paul turned me on to them when I mentioned that I was tired of bands like Celtic Frost spending more time grease-painting their faces and posturing, and he played the latest (at the time) Voivod album. Mind=blown.
\
Edit = I think I was thinking of the Voivod post when I replied to this. 3 inches Of Blood is still fucking epic!

Norwegian on my moms side- Norge, faen ja!
![]() 10/07/2013 at 21:51 |
|
Then you can tell her from me that both the Rakfisk and the Fårikål has been great this year, and that the akevitt from Løiten still packs a punch. And the frase you're looking for is "Norge for faen" :)
![]() 10/07/2013 at 21:57 |

Good to know!
![]() 10/07/2013 at 22:07 |

I obviously meant phrase, the drunk norwegian in me interfered with my spelling for a while there :P But nonetheless, tell your mom Norway says hi. :)
![]() 10/07/2013 at 22:13 |
|
I shall certainly do so!
I quit drinking four years ago - would visiting Norge be difficult for an alcoholic, or would I have to man up and 'reset my counter' after drinking my face off?
![]() 10/07/2013 at 22:18 |
|
Nah, you'll be good, the average Norwegian might perhaps do a bit more binge drinking than the average european, but no more than the average american. And we don't frown upon people who don't drink :) As long as you don't light up a blunt in public or something it's all OK.
![]() 10/07/2013 at 22:21 |
|
So I'll have to light up behind the bar, instead of in front of it?
![]() 10/07/2013 at 22:25 |
|
Yeah, pretty much.. Hehe.
